The Role in Indian Freedom
Mutiny of 1857
Our family is incredibly proud to have played a role in Indian history, funding or partially funding the first rebellion also known as the mutiny of 1857 which was led by Nanasaheb Peshwa.
Letters from Nanasaheb Peshwa to Harshram Shastri Mehta in 1868 reveal that Nanasaheb had hidden a vast treasure (worth 54 Crores) near Badnoor, secured by a Modiram. The letters state that the Butys of Nagpur pledged their support to Nanasaheb and even showed him a treasury capable of funding an army of 3,00,000 for 12 years. The Butys were ready to provide financial assistance whenever Nanasaheb needed it.

The Congress Connection

The RSS Connection
Shri Dajisaheb Buti, member of the Nagpur group of revolutionaries , provided financial backing in 1910 to Shri Keshavrao Hedgewar, founder of the RSS, enabling him to receive training for revolutionary work under Pulinbihari Das of the Anusheelan Samiti in Calcutta.

Letter from Bal Gangadhar Tilak
In 1919, a letter from B. G. Tilak was written to G. S. Khaparde. The fact that Tilak chose to send a letter "in the care of" Shri Bapusaheb Buty suggests a level of trust and familiarity.
